System Performance and Trends

It is important to make information about the performance and direction of the surgical care system available to the public. Saskatchewan tracks many factors and applies a number of different performance goals. Information is provided here on the following:

Median waits for surgery. A graph shows the number of surgeries performed by the number of weeks waited. A table shows median waits for each surgical specialty, including and excluding surgical cases.

Procedures Performed. Trend graphs show the number of surgeries performed in Saskatchewan operating rooms, overall and by region.

Patients Currently Waiting. Trend graphs show the number of patients who are waiting for surgery in Saskatchewan operating rooms, overall and by region.

Pan Canadian Benchmarks for Surgery. Tables and trend graphs show Saskatchewan’s performance on the five pan Canadian benchmarks for surgery that were established in December 2005 by Canada’s provincial, territorial and federal governments. Information is also provided on the time frames that Saskatchewan has established for achieving these benchmarks.

Target Time Frames for Surgery (performance). A table and trend graphs show performance on the target time frames Saskatchewan has established for all types of surgical procedures done in operating rooms.

See also Initiatives for brief descriptions of both ongoing and new initiatives.
