Patient Assessment Questionnaires, Guides & Urgency Profiles for Surgical Procedures

The Patient Assessment Questionnaires are scoring tools to assist surgeons in objectively measuring a patient’s urgency for surgery. The score produced by the questionnaire is combined with the urgency profile of the patient’s procedure to give the patient one of four priority levels.

The Saskatchewan Surgical Care Network recommended the development of Priority Scoring Tool Descriptor Guides to accompany the Patient Assessment Questionnaires. To date, guides have been developed for 5 specialties: General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Urology and Gynaecology/ Obstetrics. The purpose of the Guides is to clarify the criteria for each question within the questionnaire and increase consistency in the patient assessment process.
